A drumstick holder, or zippered carry bag (which is usually hung around the floor tom) is always good to keep extra sticks within reach! Drumming Gloves
For all you "heavy hitters" out there, drum gloves can not only save you from blisters, they can also improve your grip on the drumsticks! Tamborines
Ok, its not exactly a "drumset" item, but we do see drummers grab a tamborine occasionally for a special effect during a song.  Just remember, if you see your lead singer eyeing it when you're not using it, IT'S NICE TO SHARE!

Probably the most common drumset "add on" is the trusty cowbell.  Not just for Latin sounds, cowbells have been used in Rock, Pop and Dance music for decades, even if only to provide a funky "four to the bar" pulse.  Cowbells are mountable on the bass drum hoop, or on special holders (*see the mountable tamborine bracket below right) which can extend off any cymbal stand, or even the tom mounting post.  We carry several brands of cowbells, including the excellent LP brand shown above. "Ridge Rider" Cowbells
LP makes some really nifty cowbells called "Ridge Riders" which have a high strength plastic striking edge built in to the mouth of the bell.  Not only does this act as a "stick saver", it also helps mute the sustain of the bell, giving it the classic, short & funky sound, perfect for drumset use!

LP Jam Blocks are a modernization of the traditional wood block and come in two sizes, giving low and high pitches. The Red low pitched block sounds really nice on "2 & 4" backbeats in a slow, country or folk tune! Rhythm Tech Moon Block
This is Rhythm Tech's version of the LP Jam block.  Basically the same type of sound, but having a pitch just about half way between the LP versions. Rhythm Tech Mountable
Tamborine
Rhythm Tech's Drumset Tamborine is perfect mounted either off the hi-hat stand, so that you can use the left hand to catch some "2 & 4" backbeats, or mounted to the right on a cymbal stand so that you can "ride" it with the right hand.

Wind chimes are a really cool, ethereal effect, perfect for slow tunes of any style.  Most wind chimes for live use are made with solid aluminum bars like the LP model shown above.  Sets are available with various numbers of bars, and also in "double row" versions.  Wind Chimes by TreeWorks
TreeWorks wind chimes are exquisitely made instruments.  We always try to keep several models in stock of various sizes and bar diameters, including double row sets.  TreeWorks also makes really nice soft carry cases for their chimes.

Drum Tuning Aids - Perhaps one of the most elusive skills a drummer has to acquire is the ability to tune his drums.  For most, that involves LOTS of frustrating experimentation to learn how to "clear" a drum head so that it is the same pitch all the way around its' perimeter, and how to arrive at just the right pitch for each drum so that the snare has a nice "pop", the bass drum gives a solid, low thump without being flabby, and the toms have a satisfying "scale" as you play down them.  Today there are two devices to help drummers tune their drums, and keep them in tune, without having to learn through years of maddening experimentation.  The DrumDial is actually a durometer instrument which measures the "stiffness" of the head when placed around the perimeter of the drum at each tension rod.  "Clearing" a drumhead so that it is in tune around its' perimeter has never been easier! The neat part is, once you arrive at a good sounding tuning, you can  write down the readings for each drum, and can always return them to the same tension when you put on new drumheads!  The RhythmTech Memokey is a lower cost tuning aid, which is basically a "torque wrench" that "clicks" when a certain tightness (which is variable at the turn of the adjusting knob) is reached.  This device does measure the turning resistance of the tension rod, rather than the actual stiffness of the drum head, so it can be "fooled" by a rusty or poorly machined tension rod or lug insert.  On a decent quality drum with well lubricated lugs though, it really works, and it's modestly priced!

There's no other way to get a flat, punchy studio sounding bass drum without porting the front head with a large hole (which also serves well to put a bass drum microphone through).  HOLZ bass drum vent trim rings make the port look nicer and help prevent the hole from being accidentally torn.  They are available in Chrome, Black and Brass color, in 4" and 6" sizes.  LP "Gajate" cowbell
footpedal bracket
This LP designed bracket allows cowbells, Jam Blocks, tamborines and other mountable instruments to be played by a foot pedal.  Perfect for cowbell, clave and cascara rhythms in Latin or Afro music, but also cool just to slug out some quarter notes in a Rock tune when your left foot doesn't have to be on the hi-hat!
